Built to satisfy World Superbike racing requirements, the 1098R combined race-bred engineering with exotic materials and limited-production exclusivity. Powered by a 1198cc Testastretta Evoluzione L-Twin engine producing a claimed 180 horsepower, the 1098R delivered one of the highest torque-to-weight ratios of any production motorcycle of its era. Designed with extensive carbon fiber components, Öhlins suspension, forged wheels, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), and Brembo braking systems, the 1098R was essentially a street-legal race machine.
