At its heart is BMW's 1,300cc ShiftCam boxer twin, producing 145 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 110 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine delivers strong, accessible power throughout the rev range while maintaining the smooth, unmistakable character that has defined BMW's GS family for decades. A six-speed transmission and shaft drive put that power to the ground.

The R 1300 GS uses BMW's EVO Telelever front suspension and EVO Paralever rear suspension, providing stability and control while keeping the motorcycle remarkably agile for its size. The standard suspension setup offers 7.5 inches of front travel and 7.9 inches of rear travel, while optional Dynamic Suspension Adjustment adds electronically controlled suspension with load compensation and spring-rate adjustment.
