Yamaha's renowned 890cc liquid-cooled CP3 engine is light, powerful and provides a thrilling wave of torque from low rpms. A combination of carefully tuned induction sound and distinctive crossplane triple exhaust note provides a resonance which only heightens the feeling of acceleration. Throttle valves are governed by the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) system enabling finer actuation and precise control.

The MT-09 features an advanced, lightweight aluminum frame refined to showcase the MT's signature agility. To ensure both straight-line stability and handling performance, the balance of longitudinal, lateral and torsional rigidity are all carefully considered and finely tuned. The frame is manufactured using Yamaha's groundbreaking controlled fill (CF) die casting technology which contributes to its light weight.

The MT-09 features an advanced six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that matches the base performance of proven IMU in the YZF-R1 Superbike. Data collected from the IMU and wheel speed sensors enable a high-tech suite of rider aids including a four-mode Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS), front wheel Lift Control System (LIF) and a two-mode Brake Control System.
