Belmont became passionate about the developing sport at a young age, and in 1939, Howard's mother took out a mortgage on their home so that he could open the motorcycle shop that is now St. Paul Harley-Davidson®, incorporated in 1945. Howard's business opened at 277 West Seventh Street in Saint Paul and quickly became a community landmark.
